Jack Lowe, Jr. Jack joined TDIndustries in 1964, became the CEO and Board Chair in 1980, and in December 2004, retired as CEO. TDIndustries is a national mechanical and plumbing construction and facility service company, headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1946, TDIndustries has developed into one of America's premier specialty contracting companies. For eleven consecutive years the company has appeared in the FORTUNE magazine's list of the 100 best companies to work for in America. Jack Lowe attributes the trust which underpins their success to the employee-owned company's "servant leader" philosophy, in which all 1700 employees are partners. Jack graduated magna cum laude from Rice University with a BA and BSEE degree and served in the U. S. Navy. He and his wife, Mary, have six grown children and seven grandchildren.
Vikki Pryor Vikki L. Pryor is president and CEO of SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary S.USA Life Insurance Company, Inc. Before entering the corporate world, Pryor was a tax trial lawyer in the Office of the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. Recently named by Crain's New York as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in New York City Business, Pryor's involvement extends beyond SBLIUSA and into the business and civic communities. She is a frequent and sought after speaker whose engagements range from topics relating to women's empowerment, ethics, leadership, corporate governance and financial empowerment. Pryor graduated magna cum laude with a BA in 1975 and a Juris Doctorate in 1978 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She also earned a MBA degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1989. She is a CPA, CLU and ChFC and is admitted to practice law in New York and Illinois. Pryor received an honorary doctorate degree from Sacred Heart University in 2004 and a Presidential Medallion from Bronx Community College in 2008.
Kathelen Amos Kathelen Amos joined Aflac in 1985 as a staff attorney in the company's newly formed legal department. There she held various titles and was named Deputy Counsel in 1989. In 1990, she became responsible for the company's media relations. Subsequently she was asked to form the corporate communications department, which was responsible for the company's public relations, sponsorships, donations and national advertising. Under her leadership, Aflac developed its award winning Aflac duck advertising campaign and in 1995 began its sponsorship relationship with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Aflac Cancer Center. After retiring from the company in 2005, Kathelen retained her role as president of the Aflac Foundation and as the relationship advisor to the Aflac Cancer Center. She works with her husband Dan on his personal philanthropic endeavors and also serves as the president of the Paul S. Amos Educational Foundation. She was appointed by successive democratic and republican governors to the Georgia Cancer Coalition and serves on the University of Georgia School of Law Board of Visitors. Kathelen is a member of the board of trustees of Brookstone School, the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley and Columbus Bank & Trust. In 2007 she received the "Volunteer of the Year" award from the Georgia Department of Adult and Technical Education for her efforts with the $25 million building campaign for Columbus Technical College. |

Servant Leadership Program at CSU
|
On August 12-14, Stuart Rayfield, Director of the CSU Servant Leadership Program, and I took the 16 incoming freshmen students and their 4 senior mentors to FDR State Park for the Freshman Retreat. We had a great time participating in high and low ropes courses and just getting to know one another! The freshmen students also had the opportunity to visit an agency where they would like to volunteer. We ended the retreat with a Kickoff Luncheon for all of the program students. Below are some comments from students about the Freshman Retreat:
Freshman: "It was such an fun experience. I was never the kind of person that enjoyed retreats and going to a place with a bunch of people that I don't even know. However, this retreat was so much fun. I couldn't help but love the experience and the other leaders!"
Senior Mentor:
"Freshman mentoring is the most promising because it allows us to see how far we have come and it gives us hope for what will be in the future!" On August 17, the students started classes and we welcomed 16 associate students into the program. The Associate Program enables any student who is interested in leadership development to take the leadership seminars, participate in community service, and enjoy many of the same benefits that full students in the program do. As stipends become available in existing full member classes, associate students have the opportunity to apply for those openings in the program.
For more information on the Servant Leadership Program at Columbus State University, feel free to contact me at kparker@pilink.org or 706-568-2160. I'd be happy to talk with you about the program and the amazing students!
